Latest rabbinic letter on Mamdani’s candidacy

NATIONWIDE — FOLLOWING A LETTER PUBLISHED FROM GROUP THE JEWISH MAJORITY THAT DENOUNCED THE MAYORAL CANDIDACY OF Zohran Mamdani and labeled him as an anti-Zionist, a second open letter has been released that repudiates that viewpoint, instead asserting that Jews and Muslims are stronger when working together. The newest letter, titled “Jews for a Shared Future,” had, as of Thursday morning, Oct. 30, garnered 863 signatures, 46 of which are in New York City, and at least 10 of them from Brooklyn. Clergy from outside NYC also signed, as did lay synagogue and organizational leaders from across the United States.

The “Jews for a Shared Future” letter states that, “In response to Jewish concerns about the New York mayoral race, we recognize that candidate Zohran Mamdani’s support for Palestinian self-determination stems not from hate, but from his deep moral convictions… We draw inspiration from the many Israelis and Palestinians bravely building mutual respect and caring across profound divides, and we commit to supporting their work… Our traditions teach us that justice is indivisible—we are only truly safe when we ensure the safety and dignity of all. This is not merely strategic; it is sacred.”
