POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) – 18-year-old Jakob Krise of Brasher Falls is charged by Potsdam Police after a fatal hit-and-run crash Saturday morning.
Police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Emily Smith of Greenville, NY who was at SUNY Potsdam as a sophomore studying business administration.
Police said it happened at 3:37am Saturday on Pierrepont Avenue, and the suspect vehicle fled the scene southbound on New York State Route 56 and then went onto Garfield Road in the Town of Potsdam.
Potsdam police say they found the suspect driving in the village around 7:20am Saturday and the black SUV had damage.
Krise is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in death, zero tolerance driving while intoxicated, and driving across hazardous markings.
