Heat advisory issued for NYC, NJ: what to know

NEW YORK (PIX11) — The very warm start to the week is going to get even hotter.

A heat advisory has been issued for the city and Northeast New Jersey by the National Weather Service on Monday.

The advisory goes into effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Heat index values in the city are expected to climb into the mid to upper 90s during the period.

Those with chronic health problems could be susceptible to the heat.

It is recommended to seek out places that have air conditioning if unable to stay cool at home.

A cold front will bring the chance of thunderstorms during the latter part of Wednesday. Cooler temperatures will return for the rest of the week.
