NEW YORK (PIX11) — Free childcare access for New York City is being expanded, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Monday.
Around 2,000 new seats are being added for children to attend 3-K across the city, doubling the number of available seats announced earlier in the year.

“Over the past few months, we have opened nine previously vacant child care centers, added thousands of 3-K seats where families need them most and started rebuilding trust with working families across this city,” said Mamdani.
All families who have applied to the 3-K will receive an offer on Tuesday. The updated waitlist process allows families to express interest at the newly available sites and potentially end up with a program closer to home
A child care center will open up at 129 Van Brunt St. in Brooklyn. 45 3-K seats will be added with the child care center’s opening, along with 18 Pre–K seats.
The addition of the Brooklyn location puts the total up to nine childcare centers that have opened in the city for the year. Another child care center has also opened in Manhattan, dedicated to city workers.
The expansion of childcare access goes in tandem with Governor Kathy Hochul’s announcement of investing in universal 3-K, Pre-K and 2-K.
