The Long Island Rail Road strike is over after union leaders and the MTA reached a deal, but the agency’s contingency plan remained in effect Tuesday morning as service preparations continued.
Full train service is expected to resume later in the day.
In the meantime, shuttle buses continued operating between several LIRR stations and Queens, with many commuters being directed through Jamaica Station to connect with subway and bus service.
The MTA said more than 2,100 riders used the shuttle system Thursday.
Queens was among the boroughs most directly affected by the strike, with added pressure on buses, subways and roadways as commuters searched for alternate routes.
