NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — A Code Red has been declared in New York City as heat index values are predicted to reach as high as 96 degrees.
Temperatures are expected to hold around 95 degrees for the majority of the afternoon and drop to the mid 70s overnight.

During a Code Red, hundreds of cooling centers across the city will open. To find a cooling center near you, click here or call 311.
New Yorkers without access to air conditioning are encouraged to visit air-conditioned locations, including libraries, a cafe, a mall, or a friend’s or family’s home.
New Yorkers should limit strenuous activity through 4 p.m. and stay hydrated throughout the day.
Outreach teams will be dispatched to offer assistance to New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. If you witness someone who appears to be experiencing homelessness, you can call 311.
A heat advisory is in effect through 8 p.m. on Wednesday, as temperatures are predicted to climb above 90 degrees for a second straight day.
