Hannaford Supermarkets said it donated more than 6.5 million pounds of food in New York last year through partnerships with local hunger relief groups.
The company said the 2025 donations to local pantries across New York were made in partnership with the Regional Food Bank and Food Bank of Central New York. Hannaford said that equals 5.4 million meals for people facing food insecurity.

We’re proud to do our part to expand food access for families throughout the region and help families thrive.”
Hannaford said its Fresh Rescue program helps all 188 stores donate unsold food each day, including produce, meat and dairy products. In New York, the company said it worked with the two food banks and local agencies to coordinate routine pickups at 52 stores in 2025.
Hunger relief groups across the region are reporting a steady increase in need. According to the Regional Food Bank, one in nine adults and one in seven children in northeastern New York are experiencing food insecurity.
“Rescuing donations of wholesome food from food industry partners throughout the supply chain is the cornerstone of our mission and commitment to increasing food access for our neighbors throughout our 23-county service area,” said Tom Nardacci, CEO of the Regional Food Bank. “Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 53.3 million pounds of food, enough for 44 million meals, with over 31 million pounds coming from donations. As our neighbors struggle to stretch resources and demand increases at food pantries, the donated food we receive is vital. We thank Hannaford for its deep commitment to being an industry leader in food rescue and helping us reach every neighbor in need.”
The company said 2025 was a record year for its food rescue program across the Northeast, with 29 million pounds donated overall. Since 2022, Hannaford said its annual food donations have increased by 15%.
“During 2025, Hannaford donated perishable and nonperishable items to the Food Bank of Central New York, totaling more than 500,000 pounds,” said Karen Belcher, President and CEO of Food Bank of Central New York. “We distributed these high-quality foods to our network of emergency food partners throughout our 11-county service area in Central New York, Northern New York, and the Mohawk Valley. We look forward to working with the team at Hannaford to continue to help nourish our neighbors.”
Hannaford also said it invested nearly $2 million in hunger relief organizations across the region last year, including programs aimed at expanding access to fresh, locally grown food.
