The Region of Queens Municipality is asking residents to stay away as firefighters respond to a wildfire in the community of East Port L’Hebert, N.S.

In a post on Facebook Wednesday afternoon, the municipality said Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources with support from several Queens County fire departments are on the scene.

“Residents are asked to stay out of the area to allow firefighters to do their work. If there is a change in the situation, we will post an update,” the post continued.

The fire comes as Nova Scotia experiences its first hot day of the year.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning for Queens County that is expected to remain in place until the evening on Wednesday evening.

Temperatures were expected to reach 32 C on Wednesday.
