NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — A pair of New York state assemblymen have moved to the top of a crowded primary in the heart of Manhattan that’s garnered national attention.
An exclusive poll from PIX11 News, Emerson College and The Hill shows state Assemblymember Micah Lasher, a protégé of retiring NY-12 Congressman Jerry Nadler, leading at 22%. State Assemblymember Alex Bores, who has drawn headlines for his AI regulation work, is at 20%.
Jack Schlossberg, a social media commentator and grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, is polling at 11%, while lawyer and noted President Donald Trump antagonist George Conway is at 10%. Some 32% of voters surveyed remain undecided.
Schlossberg and Conway have drawn many of the headlines in this race, Schlossberg for his campaign tumult and questions about his experience. Conway, a former Republican, told PIX11 News he’s aiming for a short tenure with a singular focus to remove Trump.
But PIX11’s poll shows that it’s Lasher, who has institutional support, and Bores, who has leaned into his computer science background, who have stood out to voters so far.
NY-12 voters also have deep concerns about the economy, with 87% rating it as “poor” or “fair.”
Mayor Zohran Mamdani has yet to weigh in on the race, but might have a big impact if he chooses to do so. Mamdani has a 66% approval rating among Democrats in the district, which encompasses midtown along with large portions of the Upper West and Upper East Sides.
The Emerson College Polling New York City surveys were conducted May 16-17, 2026. The sample of likely Democratic Primary voters, n=425, has a margin of error of +/- 4.8 percent.
