Hell’s Kitchen food entrepreneur Pandelaki “Pando” Andonopulo has died at age 88. Pando, often known as “The Cheese Man”, opened and ran stores and restaurants in the neighborhood, including the Ninth Avenue Cheese Market, Kashkaval and Balkanika.

And while he’s been gone from New York City for some time now, he’s still remembered as a builder and father figure who helped Hell’s Kitchen feel like a neighborhood.
