The arrests were made on Thursday, May 14, when 23-year-old Melanie Ortiz and 32-year-old Thifany Lopez, both of College Point, surrendered themselves to Yorktown Police, the department said on Thursday, May 21.

Police said the arrests stem from an Aug. 25, 2025 larceny investigation at the CVS located at 2000 Commerce St. in Yorktown. Investigators alleged that three women stole feminine and cosmetic merchandise valued at $1,562.88 from the store.

Following an investigation, officers identified Ortiz and Lopez as two of the three suspects and obtained arrest warrants charging both women with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.

After surrendering, both women were arraigned before Judge Cohen-Pierson in Yorktown Justice Court, police said.

Ortiz was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to return to court on July 2 at 6 p.m. As for Lopez, she was turned over to the Peekskill Police Department on a separate active arrest warrant and is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on June 4 at 6 p.m., according to police.
