Adrienne Adams, the Democratic candidate for New York lieutenant governor, was in Syracuse on Wednesday with local elected Democrats, including Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens.
It’s the latest installment of the Democrats’ “Cost of Blakeman” tour which kicked off on Long Island last month.
Adams argued that Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for governor, is looking to bring “Trump-style leadership” to Albany and touted the governor’s proposed “Local Cops, Local Crimes” legislation, which would ban state and local law enforcement from coordinating with federal immigration enforcement for non-criminal violations. It would also prohibit local governments, police and corrections from entering agreements to allow the federal government to use their resources for civil immigration enforcement.
“That’s why New York can’t afford Bruce Blakeman. We just can’t afford him. For him, loyalty to Trump is more important then bringing down the cost of living for working families.,” Adams, the former New York City Council speaker, said. “New Yorkers want a governor who will deliver results and stand up for them and they’ve got one in Gov. Kathy Hochul.”
In a statement, a Blakeman campaign spokesperson said: “They should call it the Dumb and Dumber tour considering New York has the highest taxes in America, and utility costs are 50% above the national average all brought on by Kathy Hochul’s failed policies. Now her Lieutenant Governor candidate thinks it’s a good idea to let non-citizens vote. You can’t make this up!”
