LONGWOOD, the Bronx (PIX11) — A second teen has been arrested after a stray bullet grazed a 5-year-old Bronx girl in the head during a gang shootout last week, police said Friday.
The 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a firearm, according to the NYPD.
A 15-year-old boy was previously arrested and charged with the same crimes.
The child was struck in the ear during a gang shootout on Southern Boulevard in Longwood at around 5:25 p.m. on May 13, according to sources and police. The girl was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The suspects appeared to be involved in a gang shootout when the child was injured, sources said. The NYPD released footage showing the suspects running down the sidewalk while firing shots.
It was unclear what sparked the shooting.
“It’s devastating to me. I’m a grandfather to a 5-year-old little girl,” said Javier Medina, who runs the Southern Boulevard Business Improvement District.
The NYPD is still searching for a third suspect.
