A woman on a bicycle tried to lure a 10-year-old Queens boy into a van by offering the child candy, police said Friday.
The child was on his way home from school at about 5:15 p.m. on Monday and was approaching the corner of Crescent St. and 33rd Ave. in Astoria when the woman rolled up to him.
The woman tried to chat the boy up, then offered him candy, which she said she had in a nearby van, a police source with knowledge of the case said.
The boy, sensing something suspicious, ran off.
He made his way home and told his relatives, who alerted police.
The child wasn’t harmed during the encounter, cops said.
NYPD detectives scoured the area and recovered surveillance footage of the woman. Cops released the images Friday in the hopes that someone recognizes her.
The woman rolled off on her bike after the encounter. No arrests have been made.
She’s described as having a medium build and complexion with black hair in a bun. She was last seen wearing a burgundy T-shirt, black pants and black sneakers.
