As National EMS Week is observed across the country, union leaders in New York City are again calling for higher pay for emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
EMS workers have been without a contract since 2022, and union officials say low wages are contributing to staffing shortages and burnout.
Earlier this year, the union warned the City Council that as many as 1,500 EMS personnel could leave the workforce by the end of the year if conditions do not improve.
Mike Greco, the newly elected president of the Uniformed EMTs, Paramedics and Fire Inspectors union, joined “Mornings On 1” to discuss contract negotiations, staffing concerns and the challenges facing the city’s EMS system.
