ALBANY, N.Y. — Law enforcement will step up patrols to target drunk, impaired and reckless driving during Memorial Day weekend.
The New York State Police announced that the special enforcement period will run from Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25 with extra patrols.
Drivers should expect sobriety checkpoints and more patrols from State Police and local agencies.
Troopers will use both marked vehicles and concealed identity traffic enforcement vehicles to spot violations.
CITE vehicles blend in with regular traffic but become clearly marked as emergency vehicles when their lights are activated.
During Memorial Day weekend in 2025, troopers arrested 245 people for impaired driving, issued 12,062 tickets, and investigated 774 crashes, including three fatal crashes.
