A deadly fire in a Brooklyn apartment building claimed the lives of a man and a woman, and left multiple people injured, early Saturday morning.
FDNY sources said the deadly blaze broke out inside a building at 1693 Nostrand Ave. in East Flatbush on May 23. Fire department sources said units from Battalion 40 responded to multiple calls about the fire shortly before 7 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of the building. A man and a woman, both civilians, were pronounced dead at the scene; at least one person was in serious condition and two others had non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The fire was brought under control at around 7:45 a.m.

FDNY marshals are now investigating what caused the deadly blaze.
