QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — A cyclist was hit by an SUV after he crashed into a car door that swung open as he rode down a Queens street Friday, police said.

The 48-year-old cyclist was critically injured when he was struck by a Toyota Highlander near Beach 43rd Street and Beach Channel Drive in Edgemere just before 8 a.m., according to the NYPD.

A 15-year-old passenger opened a Mercedes rear driver’s side door when the cyclist crashed into the door and ricocheted into oncoming traffic, where he was hit by the SUV, police said.

The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with severe head and bodily trauma, according to the NYPD.

Surveillance video showed the parked white Mercedes door swing open and knock the cyclist into the right side of the Toyota.

The 29-year-old Toyota driver and 48-year-old Mercedes driver remained at the scene. There have been no arrests.

The investigation is ongoing.
