Christopher Robert Lane, 29, was taken into custody in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the Middletown Police Department said.
“This arrest was the result of extensive investigative efforts, interagency cooperation, and information developed throughout the investigation,” the Middletown Police Department said Saturday. “We appreciate the public’s patience and support during the large police presence and shelter-in-place advisories that were issued as officers worked to ensure the safety of our community.”
The police department said additional information would be released at a later time.
Officers had been searching for Lane since he reportedly fired a gun on Westlake Drive on Tuesday. Investigators determined that Lane discharged a firearm following a dispute involving the occupants of a vehicle, according to police.
The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. Police said Lane knew the victim, who was not struck and was able to flee the area safely.
The incident prompted an extensive search involving K-9 teams, drones and regional law enforcement resources. Police also issued a shelter-in-place for the Westlake Drive, East Street and Atkins Street areas during the search as a precaution.
“Despite extensive efforts throughout the evening, Lane was not located,” police said on Wednesday.
Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Lane and continued searching for him, enlisting the public for help.
