After decades in the same family, a waterfront home on New York’s Shelter Island is hitting the market for $19.995 million. The roughly 5-acre property is one of the most expensive for sale on the island, according to listing agent Michael Brennan of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, and will set a record if it fetches its asking price.
Since the 1990s, the home in the village of Dering Harbor was owned by the late fragrance and cosmetics mogul Robert Ruttenberg, who died in November 2025 at 84. Ruttenberg co-founded Warner Cosmetics, which is known for creating the Polo, Lauren and Chaps fragrances, according to his daughter, Julie Farris, who is selling the property alongside her two siblings.
