Robert Smullen stops in Lewis County

  • May 26, 2026

TOWN OF LOWVILLE, New York (WWNY) – 21st congressional district candidate Robert Smullen was in Lewis County on Saturday.

He was visiting Tug Hill Estate, a part of a tour to all 15 counties within the 21st district.

“Agriculture is the number one industry in upstate New York, so I want to make sure that I have the fine level of detail for all of the dairy farms, for all of the orchards, for all of the agriculture-based industries in the north country,” said Robert Smullen.

While speaking about agriculture, Smullen touched on solar farms. He believes the state has too much of a say.

“I would prefer that municipalities and counties have authorities that are granted to them by the New York state constitution, as opposed to the governor trying to push through these green mandates by permitting things to fast,” said Smullen.

We also asked Smullen about the cost of living, specifically gas and utility costs. While he’s for the denuclearization of Iran, he says he’d like to see the conflict end and the Strait of Hormuz open.

When it comes to utility costs, it’s an issue he’s familiar with working in the state assembly.

“We’re demanding too much of our energy supply be from renewable energy. Some of it is good, but too much of it, before the technology is ready, has caused our electricity costs to skyrocket. That’s because of bad policies from the democrats in Albany over the last 8 years. We need to roll them back,” said Smullen.

Smullen feels confident in his campaign so far, and with a primary election on June 23rd, feels he’s fit for the job.

“I’m a servant leader, and I’ll represent all of the people. As a conservative republican who supports President Trump and has been appointed by President Trump, they can count on me to help with good federal policies that will make the north country better,” said Smullen

Smullen is running against Anthony Constantino in the republican primary. We covered his visit to Gouverneur on May 15th.
