1. Mamdani details his plan to create and preserve thousands of affordable homes

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has unveiled his plan for tackling the affordable housing crisis in New York City.

“The city is putting forward the most ambitious plan for affordable housing this city has ever seen,” he said.

In an interview with NY1 yesterday, Mamdani detailed some of the plan’s goals. Among them is increasing homeownership in the city through the expansion of city-backed loans for first-time homebuyers.

2. State lawmakers voting on final budget bills this week

State budget votes might be in the final stretch after nearly two months of stalled negotiations and weeks after Gov. Kathy Hochul declared victory.

State lawmakers are predicting there’s an end in sight to the longest-stalled state budget dealings since Hochul took office in 2021. The over $268 billion spending plan is expected to include big changes to the state’s pension system, car insurance industry and new violations for those who intimidate congregations outside houses of worship.

3. New York congressman leads bipartisan effort to kill Trump’s $1.8 billion ‘slush fund’

Rep. Tom Suozzi, who represents sections of Queens and Long Island, is leading a bipartisan effort to kill President Donald Trump’s “anti-weaponization” fund.

The nearly $1.8 billion fund has been slammed as a “slush fund” for Trump’s allies by several Democratic and Republican lawmakers — who have expressed concern that it could be used to pay Jan. 6 rioters, including extremist groups such as the Proud Boys.
