NYC Mayor Mamdani joins community for Eid al‑Adha prayers
BRONX, N.Y (PIX11) — New York City’s Mayor Mamdani joined hundreds of worshippers for Eid al‑Adha prayers Wednesday morning, marking the holiday with a visit to a local mosque.
The mayor joined the Muslim Community Network, community leaders, and residents for the annual prayer service in the Bronx, one of the most significant observances in Islam.
The day is marked by communal prayer, charitable giving and reflection on service and solidarity.
Mamdani is the city’s first Muslim mayor, and he has frequently emphasized the importance of representation across New York City.
“As New York City’s first Muslim mayor, I am determined to lead with the lens of solidarity,” he said during Wednesday’s event. He added that the holiday’s themes of sacrifice offer “an opportunity to understand ourselves as part of something larger.”
Eid al‑Adha, which concludes the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, is celebrated by millions of Muslims worldwide. In New York City, large outdoor prayer gatherings have become a longstanding tradition, drawing diverse communities from across the five boroughs.
