The body of a missing man in his 20s was found in a drainage pond in Brooklyn Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Jontae Lee, 27, was reported missing on March 11 after getting into a fight with a friend, Brooklyn Park police said. When authorities arrived to break up the fight, Lee was gone, but the friend, Johnny Robinson, was still there.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that Lee had attacked Robinson before running away. A search of the area began, and Lee was officially reported as missing when he did not come home later that day.

A search for Lee has been ongoing over the last two months, with detectives conducting canine, water and drone searches, officials say.

On Tuesday around 1:30 p.m., Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) agents used specialized electronic-sniffing dogs on the 6900 block of Lakeland Avenue North to locate Lee’s body, which was found partially submerged in the reeds of a drainage pond.

Robinson, 22, was arrested for probable cause murder around 8 p.m. on Thursday in connection with Lee’s death.

Lee’s family was outspoken about his disappearance, holding a vigil late in March to commemorate his birthday. A fundraiser for the family was also created, which can be accessed HERE.

Authorities with the Brooklyn Park Police Department (BPPD) released a statement along with the arrest information:

“The Brooklyn Park Police Department worked tirelessly on this case to locate Jontae Lee and to ensure that the person responsible for his death is held accountable. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Jontae during their time of loss and sorrow.”
