Albany, NY (WRGB) — 42-year-old Jason Wells from Albany is facing charges after prosecutors say he intentionally set a house on fire while a family was sleeping.

It happened on September 18 on Second Street. In a release from the prosecutor’s office, they say Wells poured a liquid accelerant on the front steps of the home while a family of seven was inside.

The fire caused over $2,000 in damage to the front steps, door, and siding. The family was able to get out of the house safely.

Wells has been indicted on charges of arson and criminal mischief. Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced the charges following Wells’ arraignment before Judge Roger McDonough.
