1. LIRR, NJ Transit and Amtrak service disrupted by Penn Station tunnel fire
A fire at Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan early Friday is creating major disruptions ahead of the morning rush.
The FDNY says crews responded to a reported train car fire on Track 11 at Penn Station shortly after 1:30 a.m.
Some trains are being diverted to Grand Central and Hoboken, while subway and PATH systems are cross-honoring rail tickets.
2. Crash survivors and advocates hope super speeders are stopped under new law
The signing of the “Stop Super Speeders” act brings hope for Amber Adler that others won’t suffer like she did in a car crash with a speeding driver.
“I could not be secured by the seatbelt because I was flung sideways. My children, thank God, were in their car seats, which were very, very, very secure,” Adler said. “But I had a lot. I had a lot of injuries from this crash.”
3. Hochul on state budget, Pope Leo’s AI policy and Knicks fandom
Celebrating signing into law the over $268 billion state budget, Gov. Kathy Hochul sat down with NY1 Political Anchor Errol Louis in a wide-ranging interview, discussing fiscal challenges tied to changing federal policy; balancing requests from Mayor Zohran Mamdani; and looking ahead to endorsements in a busy primary season.
New York’s Democratic governor promised months ago that one big driver of fiscal and policy negotiations this year would be former New Yorker, President Donald Trump.
