EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) — A well-known spot to get a good New York slice will be closing its doors to start anew after three decades.
Two Boots Pizza welcomes its loyal patrons to a celebration of life on Friday at 7 p.m. to commemorate the end of 30 years at its location at 42 Avenue A in the East Village.

Despite the end of an era near its original location, which was just across the street, current shop owner Phil Hartman plans to reopen at another storefront in the same neighborhood.
“30 years in one spot in NYC is a miracle and we’re planning on this being a fond remembrance,” read a social media post from the pizza shop.

Those wanting to celebrate everything Two Boots Pizza are encouraged to bring a memory, song, poem or even a hymn to honor their favorite slice and the shop.
Two Boots Pizza, founded by indie filmmakers Hartman and Doris Kornish, along with developer John Touhey, first opened on June 24, 1987, as an Italian-Cajun fusion on Avenue A.

It quickly became known and loved for its eye-popping, colorful vintage decor and jazz band performances reminiscent of New Orleans, as well as its classic and unique pizza creations like the Bayou Beast featuring spiced shrimp, crawfish, andouille, jalapenos and mozzarella.
Almost 39 years and 50,000,000 slices later, Two Boots Pizza expanded its footprint with locations in the West Village, Upper East and West Sides, Park Slope, Jersey City and Nashville.
While Friday will commemorate the pizza shop’s legacy at Avenue A, customers can look forward to the announcement of the new location soon.
