NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — New York City will be under a gridlock alert for FIFA World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Friday.
Residents are encouraged to use public transportation on game days, as the city will turn parts of Fifth and Sixth Avenues in Midtown into bus and shuttle corridors.

Below is everything you need to know about the street closures and reroutes for the bus and shuttle corridor during the World Cup at MetLife Stadium.
Match day bus lanes
On the day of the MetLife Stadium matches, official NYNJ Stadium shuttle buses will provide non-stop express service for ticketholders to and from Manhattan via the Lincoln Tunnel.
The bus corridors and lanes will be limited to NYNJ Stadium shuttle buses, MTA local buses, official World Cup affiliate vehicles and emergency vehicles.
Vehicle limits will begin six hours before the matches begin and three hours after they end.
Delivery trucks will also be restricted from between 30th Street and 60th Street, from the East to Hudson rivers, beginning six hours before the game and three hours after they end.

Penn Station changes for NJ Transit
Multiple streets around Penn Station will be closed to traffic to allow commuters to queue for trains and buses to MetLife Stadium. Closures will begin at least six hours before each match and three hours after each match ends.

Other mass transit service on World Cup match days
Service on MTA subways and buses are expected to continue with potential service changes for buses and Access-A-Ride in Midtown. Service between 34th Street and 59th Street from the FDR Drive to the West Side Highway could be subject to diversions, reroutes, skipped stops or cancellations.
The Long Island Railroad will continue to have service to and from Penn Station however, riders are encouraged to use Grand Central Madison and/or Atlantic Terminal to avoid large crowds. The NYC Ferry will also add vessels and trips to high-demand routes.
Service for Citi Bikes, PATH trains and Metro-North is expected to be normal on match days.
