The Callaway County Public Library and Sedalia Public Library will be awarded with a $10,000 gift from Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish Immigrant and philanthropist, and between 1886 and 1917 he funded the construction of 1,681 free public libraries across the U.S.
This award is part of Carnegie Libraries 250, an initiative that celebrates the upcoming 250th anniversary the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Roughly, 1,280 Carnegie Libraries that serve their communities throughout the United States have been honored through this initiative.
“We are humbled to receive this $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Foundation,” Robin Westphal, the executive director of Daniel Boone Regional Library system, said in a press release. “(It is) a reminder that Carnegie’s spirit of philanthropy and belief in lifelong learning still shape the heart of our mission every day.”
CCPL and Sedalia Public Library are two of 33 Carnegie libraries in Missouri built through this historic program.
“We are proud of this honor and deeply grateful to the Sedalia Public Library staff and Board of Trustees for their ongoing dedication to literacy, education, and public enrichment in our city,” said Mayor Andrew Dawson in a press release.
