1. Onondaga County expands some programs for SNAP recipients
Onondaga County is expanding several programs to help residents get the food they need.
2. Judges order Trump administration to use contingency funds for SNAP payments during the shutdown
Two federal judges ruled nearly simultaneously on Friday that President Donald Trump’s administration must continue to fund SNAP, the nation’s biggest food aid program, using contingency funds during the government shutdown.
Funding for the Syracuse Aquarium is reportedly $2 million short ahead of its opening next summer. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon announced the deficit in a press conference Friday, but said that he wants the gap to be filled by private donations.
4. Trooper who died from 9/11-related service being laid to rest in North Country
Steven Greene, of Colton, passed away in his home Oct. 24 at age 65 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Services were scheduled for Thursday and Friday. Gov. Kathy Hochul directed flags on state government buildings to fly at half-mast.
5. Statewide propoÂsition on Mount Van HoÂevenberg land usage on the ballot this year
Voters in New York may have noticed, or will notice, a special proposition on the ballot this year. It has to do with Lake Placid and its Olympic sites allowing land in the Adirondacks to be used for sport, in exchange for land added to the forest preserve.
6. 2 former Mid-State guards reject murder charge pleas; 2 admit misconduct
The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk called for an investigation into the strikes, in what appeared to mark the first such condemnation of its kind from a United Nations organization.
