The Manhattan Senior Center has launched a new fall fundraising campaign in conjunction with Manhattan Bank.

The local bank — which is celebrating its 120th anniversary —  will match all donations up to $5,000 to Manhattan Senior Center (MSC) during October, according to MSC Treasurer. Barb Schneidenbach.

“By providing home delivered meals, social on-site meals, activities, and gatherings for seniors, the Manhattan Senior Center greatly benefits the lives of seniors. Manhattan seniors age 65 and over have a poverty rate of 25% percent, which is more than double the rate for seniors in Montana (10%),” the local nonprofit said in an announcement.

The Manhattan center suspended in-house meals earlier this year after the departure of staff and volunteers.

But the group has been rebuilding its board, volunteer corps and finances. MSC now offers in-house lunch meals on Wednesdays and Thursdays with plans to bring back lunch meals on Tuesdays.

The senior center is located at 102 East Main Street.

Earlier this month, ACE Hardware stores in Belgrade and Manhattan also donated to the senior center via customers rounding up their sales totals. That brought in more than $350, MSC said in a social media post.

The Manhattan center also holds coffees and other events for local seniors.

“Contributions can also be made in person at the Center or the bank. Manhattan Bank’s main office is at 124 S. Broadway, with other branches in Three Forks, Churchill and Bozeman,” the center said in an announcement.
