JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tyshawn Rose and Raffery Pedder scored either side of halftime to rally Sporting Club Jacksonville to a 2-2 draw against Brooklyn FC at Hodges Stadium in a contest that was called in the 74th minute due to persistent lightning and heavy rain.

Brooklyn opened the game brightly and took the lead in the eighth minute when CJ Olney found space on the left to deliver a cross that was turned on frame first time by Juan Carlos Obregón Jr., and while Christian Olivares was able to turn away the initial effort, Peter Mangione followed up to put home the rebound from the top of the six-yard area. The visitors doubled their lead 15 minutes later when Stefan Stojanovic headed into the left corner after another cross by Olney from the left side.

Jacksonville got on the board eight minutes before halftime as Rose powered home a long-range finish that picked out the bottom-right corner from 25 yards, and the hosts leveled 10 minutes into the second half when Pedder tapped home from close range after good work by Kieran Sadlier to create space for a pass across the top of the six-yard area from the left side of the box.

The visitors quickly got back on the front foot as Obregón had a pair of chances on the hour-mark to restore the lead, but in the 74th minute, lightning forced the teams from the field and the persistent weather systems in the area left no timespan that permitted the match to be finished in the three-hour weather window allotted for a delay before the game was called.

Takeaways

Sporting Club Jacksonville – The hosts’ defensive frailties were again shown up as Brooklyn scored a pair of goals in the opening 25 minutes to take control of the contest, but Jacksonville once again showed resilience to get back into the game and earn another point. The side, however, has now set the longest winless streak for an expansion side in Championship history, sitting on an 11-game winless run.

Brooklyn FC – The visitors couldn’t have made a better start to the game with a pair of well-taken goals, but BKFC’s own defensive challenges allowed Jacksonville back into the contest before the weather caused an early end to the contest. Brooklyn had the better chances of the two sides, recording nine shots on target, and will be disappointed not to have come away with three points.
