Maxine Broderick, a Nassau County District Court judge, is the next president of the Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA).
“As I embark upon the coming year as NCBA president, I feel a tremendous sense of privilege, purpose and responsibility,” Broderick said in a written statement.
“The NCBA is not merely a professional organization,” she said. “It is a 127-year-old institution where legal practices thrive, attorneys forge professional bonds and lasting friendships, new attorneys and law students are mentored, and leaders are made. That is a tradition and legacy worth preserving and honoring.”
The bar association’s 124th president, Broderick aims “to continue strengthening the sense of community and belonging within the organization,” according to the bar association. Her priorities include expanding professional development opportunities, cultivating future leaders, and ensuring that the bar association remains fiscally sound while delivering meaningful value to its members.
Born and raised in the Village of Hempstead, according to the bar association, Broderick is the youngest of four children in a Caribbean American family where education was a top priority. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in 1995 and, after working in the corporate world, a law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 2003, attending classes part time and working full time. She was admitted to practice law in New York in 2004 and opened her law practice in 2008.
Broderick was appointed a Hempstead Village Court justice in 2017. That same year, she won a contested election to the Nassau court, representing the Town of Hempstead. During her tenure on the bench, she has presided over criminal cases involving assault, sexual abuse, criminal contempt, driving while intoxicated offenses and unlawful imprisonment. For three years, she served as the domestic violence misdemeanor judge and became the presiding judge of Nassau’s Human Trafficking Intervention Court in 2023. Broderick is also an adjunct professor at Hofstra University, teaching a course on attorney leadership.
An installation ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday evening. Broderick will be installed alongside Samuel Ferrara, president-elect; Deanne Caputo, vice president; Ira Slavit, treasurer; and Michael Antongiovanni, secretary. Special guests include Nassau County Administrative Judge Vito DeStefano, who is slated to install the new officers and directors of the NCBA Board of Directors and Nassau Academy of Law.
