Full casting has been revealed for the upcoming Broadway bow of Paranormal Activity, set to begin at the August Wilson Theatre August 14 ahead of a September 15 opening night. The horror play will have a 20-week limited run.
Featured in the cast will be Cher Álvarez as Lou, Travis A. Knight as James, Shannon Cochran as Carolanne, and Andrea Syglowski as Etheline Cotgrave, with understudies Caron Buinis, Caroline Hendricks, and Michael Holding rounding out the company. All but Syglowski are reprising their performances from the play’s pre-Broadway North American engagements, and making their Broadway debuts with the work.
The complete Broadway cast will star in a Boston run of the play prior to the Main Stem bow, playing July 11-30 at Emerson Colonial Theatre.
Felix Barrett will direct the stage adaptation of the 2007 screen horror favorite, penned by Levi Holloway. The stage work has played sold-out runs in London and Los Angeles.
A notorious title in the contemporary horror film genre, Paranormal Activity follows couple Katie and Micah, soon after they move to a suburban home. Katie believes that a nefarious presence has been haunting her since she was a child, so the pair set up a camera in their bedroom to catch any strange activity that occurs while they sleep….cue the demon noises.
The production will feature scenic and costume design by Fly Davis (Caroline, Or Change 2021), illusion design by Chris Fisher (Stranger Things: The First Shadow), lighting design by Anna Watson (Giant), sound design by Gareth Fry (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), video and projections design by Luke Halls (The Lehman Trilogy), and general management by Samuel Dallas of Envoy Theatricals.
Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, the original producer of the Paranormal Activity film franchise, has joined the producing team for the Broadway bow, which is also produced in association with Paramount Pictures, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Shakespeare Theatre Company, and American Conservatory Theater. The staging was originally produced at Leeds Playhouse. In addition to Blum, the producing team includes Simon Friend, Hanna Osmolska, Ken Davenport, Gavin Kalin Productions, Seaview, Crooked Letter, Blumhouse, John Gore Organization, Michael Ngo/David Thomas Tao, Olympus Theatricals/FineWomen Productions, Amplify Pictures, Robina Riccitiello, and Lone Pine Theatricals. Seaview serves as executive producer.
