JuJu Smith-Schuster, wearing a blue No. 8 Giants jersey, made an immediate impact after officially signing earlier in the day. Most recently with the Chiefs, the 10th-year pro made a pair of nifty catches on well-placed passes, one apiece from Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston during 7-on-7 work.
One-handed catch from…you guessed it…
It wasn’t exactly “The Catch” that made a certain teammate famous, but fullback Patrick Ricard pulled in a pass with one-hand while working his way up the left sideline. The six-time Pro Bowl selection touched the ball frequently on Tuesday, including a run up the middle to the delight of center John Michael Schmitz.
Play of the day
Wide receiver Malachi Fields hauled in a touchdown in the back left corner of the end zone during red-zone drills after Dart scrambled to buy time while rolling out.
Elijah Campbell to the house
Campbell, a veteran defensive back who spent the past five seasons with Miami, jumped a pass in the first team period and returned it for what would have been a touchdown. Coach John Harbaugh recently praised the safeties and said “it’s a good-looking group to me.”
It was the second consecutive day with a pick-six. Rookie Colton Hood, a second-round pick from Tennessee, had one on Monday.
Best of the rest
Outside linebackers Abdul Carter and Brian Burns had would-be sacks. Burns also batted a pass at the line of scrimmage late in practice.
Safety Jevón Holland made a few plays, including a run stop.
“Jevón Holland is a proven NFL high level safety,” Harbaugh said recently. “And he’s very young and just starting his career.”
Berrios notched a handful of receptions from Winston.
Rookie defensive lineman Bobby Jamison-Travis, a sixth-round pick, had a standout play for the second consecutive day with a would-be tackle for loss. Yesterday, he batted a pass.
Defensive linemen Darius Alexander and Leki Fotu teamed up for a would-be sack.
Wide receiver Darnell Mooney caught a deep pass from Dart over the middle in 7-on-7s.
