NEW YORK (WABC) — New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball pulled “Tara Food Golden Raisins”, located in the Bronx, from shelves across the city due to undeclared sulfites.

According to a consumer alert released Saturday, people with severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product.

To date, no illnesses have been reported to the Department of Agriculture and Markets in connection with the product.

The affected products, at retailers in the New York City metro area, were sold in 14-ounce clear packages with UPC Code 8247931229 and a “best before” date of June 30, 2026.

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by New York State Food Laboratory personnel revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites which were not declared on the label. according to the announcement.

The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions, including anaphylactic shock, in some asthmatics and sensitive individuals.

Analysis of the Tara Food Golden Raisins revealed they contained 74.21mg/serving.

Consumers who may have purchased these products should not consume them and are advised to discard the product immediately. Consumers with questions may contact Tara Food Inc. at (914) 670-1224.
