The award-winning summer program Skyview High returns to Flushing on June 14, bringing another season of immersive experiences, cultural programming, and community engagement to Queens.

While final exams wrap up and graduation caps fly, The Shops at Skyview is preparing to ring the school bell once again with its popular summer-long celebration, running from June 14 through July 23. This year’s festivities begin with a special “Opening Assembly” featuring CHANGJO of legendary K-pop group TEEN TOP on June 14.

Ahead of his long-awaited return to New York City, amNewYork spoke exclusively with CHANGJO, whose last appearance in the city dates back to TEEN TOP’s memorable Times Square performances during the early wave of K-pop’s global expansion about 16 years ago.

“Coming back to New York feels really meaningful to me,” CHANGJO said. “New York always gives me a lot of energy and inspiration, but it’s even more special because TEEN TOP was one of the early K-pop groups to perform there. I have a lot of memories connected to the city.”

“Every time I visit New York, those memories come back to me, and it reminds me how grateful I am for all the love and support we received there. That’s why New York will always feel special to me, no matter how many times I go back.”

This year’s Skyview High theme, “Our School Memories,” will transport visitors back to the 2010s (when TEEN TOP visited NYC) through live performances, fan interactions, school-themed activities, and nostalgic experiences. The event, which earned a Global Marketing Gold Award from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), is set to transform the mall into a campus-inspired destination celebrating Asian culture through music, fashion, food, wellness, art, and interactive community programming.

CHANGJO tells amNewYork that reconnecting with fans remains one of the most anticipated parts of the trip.

“Thank you so much for always supporting me from far away,” he said. “I know it’s not easy to wait for someone for such a long time, so I’m really grateful for the love and support you’ve continued to give me.”

“I’m preparing a lot of new things right now, and I hope we can make even more good memories together soon. I’m really excited to see everyone again in New York. Thank you always, and I love you,” he added.

For those looking for a more intimate experience, VIP Charity Tickets are available through a donation that directly supports the nonprofit River Fund’s educational programs. VIP attendees will receive guaranteed seating, a signed poster, a small-group photo opportunity with CHANGJO, and the chance to participate in select on-stage activities.

Speaking from his home in Seoul during his interview with amNewYork, CHANGJO had a special message for fans considering attending the event.

“Will you come see me at Skyview High Summer School?” he asked with a smile. “Don’t be late for class, okay? See you all very soon.”

Beyond meeting fans, the singer admits that he is eager to rediscover New York’s iconic landmarks and neighborhoods.

“Every time I go to New York, I feel like there’s always something new to experience,” he said. “This time, I really want to spend more time enjoying the city itself. I want to visit places like DUMBO, Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, and SUMMIT, and just take in the atmosphere of New York again.”

“I also really enjoy shopping, so I want to look around for accessories and jewelry, especially watches and Chrome Hearts pieces.”

CHANGJO’s appearance marks the kickoff of a summer filled with cultural programming at Skyview High. Through July 23, visitors can participate in culinary workshops and Asian food experiences, creative art and fashion activities, wellness and dance classes, and a community school-supply drive benefiting youth throughout Queens.

For K-pop fans and families looking for a unique summer experience, Wesley Sin, Senior Marketing Manager of Acadia Realty Trust, shared that Skyview High will combine entertainment, culture, and community impact, while giving attendees the rare chance to welcome CHANGJO back to New York after more than a decade away.
