A man was found stabbed to death inside his Bronx apartment after tenants complained of a foul odor, according to a report — and cops are hunting for a bearded suspect.
A worker renovating units at the building on Longfellow Ave. near Aldus St. in Longwood went to investigate the source of the horrible smell and found the victim dead from a knife wound to his chest about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, the landlord told News 12.
“He was discovered with a knife in his chest, I believe” the landlord told the station.
The victim, believed to be in his 60s, had been living in the unit with a male roommate through a supportive housing program for several years, the landlord told News 12.
The roommate was not home when the body was discovered but the landlord believes he had been living with the corpse for days.
Police sources told the Daily News neighbors heard screaming from the apartment around the time the stabbing is believed to have taken place.
The lanky murder suspect, who was sporting a thick beard and was last seen wearing a black shirt, dark pants and sneakers, was caught on surveillance video leaving the building at some point. He was last seen fleeing down the street, cops said.
Cops released images of the suspect on Thursday in the hopes someone recognizes him.
The slaying was one of two homicides to take place in the Bronx within a 13-hour span, cops said.
At about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, a man was fatally shot in the chest and groin on Grand Concourse near E. 181st St. in Fordham. Like the stabbing victim, he wasn’t carrying ID and cops are still working to determine his identity.
By the end of May, there had been 37 murders in the Bronx this year, four less than by the same time last year, cops said.
Anyone with information on the stabbing suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
