City Council members in San Antonio and New York are in a food fight as the Spurs and Knicks go head-to-head in the NBA Finals.
Several City Council members issued a challenge to their New York counterparts ahead of the first Spurs versus Knicks game: trade famous New York bagels for beloved breakfast tacos if their team loses the finals.
“The Finals are here, San Antonio. And New York City Council, we’ve got a challenge for you,” Councilman Ric Galvan said at the start of the Instagram video.

“If the Spurs win the NBA 2026 championship,” Councilman Edward Mungia said.
“You mean when they win,” Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez cut in, wearing a Spurs jersey and cap.
“You have to swap your little bagels for iconic breakfast tacos,” McKee-Rodriguez said, tossing a bagel aside and waving a foil-wrapped taco at the camera.
“And wear Spurs gear for the day,” Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran added.
Council members took turns standing at a small table with a “Go Spurs Go” banner on it in front of City Hall.
“Do we have a deal?” Councilwoman Marina Alderete-Gavito asked, standing beneath a larger Spurs banner that has hung in front of City Hall throughout the Spurs’ post season.

“Go, Spurs, go!” McKee-Rodriguez and Mungia chanted as they pumped their fists in the air at the end of the video.
New York council members clapped back with their own Instagram video an hour later, calling on San Antonio elected officials to wear Knicks gear and eat bagels over tacos if the Spurs are defeated.
“Hey @cosagov, challenge accepted,” the caption of the post reads. “Hope your New York bagels aren’t stale when they make it to San Antonio, because you’re gonna need the comfort food when our Knicks schmear your Spurs.”
The Spurs and Knicks last faced off in the Finals in 1999. San Antonio won the series 4-1.

The Finals kicked off on Wednesday at the Frost Bank Center with the Spurs losing to the Knicks 95-105.
The teams will meet again for Game 2 on Friday in San Antonio.
