The 5th annual Relay for Life of Central New York brought together teams and supporters at Delta Lake State Park for a day focused on raising funds to help fight cancer.
ROME, N.Y. — The 5th annual Relay for Life of Central New York brought together teams and supporters at Delta Lake State Park for a day focused on raising funds to help fight cancer.
The event took place Saturday and featured a “Decades of Hope” theme. Organizers started the relay with a local survivors lap, then 65 teams continued walking laps to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Music from local performers and DJs, kids activities and various fundraisers were part of the day’s events.
“We have teams from Otsego County to Oswego County here, so it’s truly a Central New York event. Just seeing the community rally together and the number of survivors that have come out and just knowing that there are more survivors here every single year—that’s inspiring to me, that’s inspiring to all the teams, and really that’s our ultimate goal,” said Robert Elinskas from the American Cancer Society.
Last year’s Relay for Life of Central New York raised more than $275,000. Money raised from this year’s event will support research, education, advocacy and patient service programs.
