After four years away from the tennis courts, Serena Williams is making a comeback ahead of the grass-court season.

The four-time Olympic champion announced her return to the WTA tour on 1 June, beginning at the Queen’s Club WTA 500 tournament in Great Britain (8-14 June).

Williams will compete in the women’s doubles alongside world singles No. 9 Victoria Mboko, the Canadian teenager posting a picture of the pair together on the London grass.

The return of the 44-year-old ends months of speculation of a touted comeback, after Williams registered herself on the ITIA International Registered Testing Pool at the end of 2025.

It was the first time she was on the list, a requirement for any player wishing to compete, since her last competitive appearance at the 2022 US Open.

After playing in London, Williams will head to the German capital to compete at the Berlin Tennis Open from 13-21 June. Wimbledon begins a week later on 29 June.

She said in a statement on Friday (5 June): “Every tournament I add to my schedule right now feels special, and Berlin is no exception. I’m excited to compete in front of the German fans and continue building momentum throughout the grass-court season.”

First up is a return to London, where the seven-time Wimbledon singles champion has not played since June 2022. She will compete at the Queen’s Club in south-west London, 4.3 miles (6.9km) from the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
