The 2025 New York City Marathon takes place on Sunday, November 2, with the elite distance runners in the world touching down in the Big Apple for one of the most popular, viewed, and grueling courses on the schedule.

The 26.2-mile marathon course begins on Staten Island and runs through all five New York City boroughs, before runners cross the finish line inside Central Park.

Runners begin the race at different times, with the elite women’s runners starting at 8:35 a.m. ET, while the elite men’s division kicks off at 9:05 a.m. ET. The race officially begins at 8:00 a.m. ET with the wheelchair divisions.

This year’s race airs live on ESPN2.

After the pro runners hit the course, those who qualified begin their runs in waves. Waves are staggered as follows (all times Eastern):

9:10 a.m. Wave 1

9:45 a.m. Wave 2

10:20 a.m. Wave 3

10:55 a.m. Wave 4

11:30 a.m. Wave 5

Men aged 18 to 34 need a recorded time of under 2 hours and 53 minutes in a previous marathon to qualify for the NYC Marathon, while women in the same age group require a minimum time of 3 hours and 13 minutes.

Your best bet for watching the New York City Marathon via a live stream is WatchESPN. You will need your login and password information for your cable or satellite provider, and you’re good to go.
