While details are still preliminary, sources say the incident unfolded inside the transit hub just after 7 p.m. on June 7 near 33rd Street and 8th Avenue.
Sources close to the case said the male suspect allegedly attacked several people with a sharp object before police tackled him to the floor.
At least one person was reported to be in serious condition at a local hospital at this time, sources told amNewYork.
The incident happened just 24 hours before the Knicks play in Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, just above Penn Station. Both President Donald Trump and Mayor Zohran Mamdani are expected to attend amid extremely tight security.
Police are asking the public to stay clear of the area and to expect traffic delays as the investigation unfolds.
