PERHAM

— Perham’s Brooklyn Glorvigen had a personal best day on the course at Ridges at Sand Creek on Tuesday, June 9.

The lone Lady Jackey golfer completed her first-ever opening round of the Class AA state tournament with a 5-over-par 77, placing ninth.

The sophomore shocked herself as she is in a prime position for a state medal.

“It was crazy,” she said. “I was just looking to break 100 out here. It was a hard course and I executed the way I needed to, like the best I’ve done all season. So I’m really happy and really excited.”

Glorvigen teed off at around 12:09 p.m. As the sun made its way west, the temperature continued to travel north, almost reaching 90 degrees. Down in the “valley,” where most of the holes are located, the conditions felt worse as the humidity was also rising.

So Glorvigen had to take extra measures to keep a solid grip on her clubs.

“I had to keep wiping my hands off between practice shots and real shots,” she said “I had such sweaty hands. Wiping them on the grass, umbrella, sunscreen, all the things I could find.”

However, she battled the summer conditions to her best round ever. She ended the afternoon with 12 pars and just five bogeys. After a 3-over-par first nine holes, she finished 2-over-par through the turn.

“I was so proud of how she executed every single shot today,” head coach Cory Solberg said. “It was exactly how she pictured it in her mind and exactly how it turned out. You could see that she was focused from the very beginning and just played the best I’ve ever seen her play in her life.”

Glorvigen tees off for Round 2 at 1:12 p.m. on Hole 1. She’s excited for the second round to see where she will end up.
