Mind Your Biscuits, the highest-earning New York-bred of all-time and the fast-starting young sire, died suddenly on Tuesday at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan, the Japanese publication Sankei Sports reports.

According to Sankei Sports, the 13-year-old son of Posse had been in good health and behaving normally until midday Tuesday, when his condition quickly worsened following an afternoon trip to the breeding shed.

“I’m shocked that he suddenly passed away,” said Shadai’s Teruya Yoshida. “He was only 13 years old and still young, and he was producing good offspring, so it’s truly regrettable.”

Bred in New York by Jumping Jack Racing, Mind Your Biscuits began his career facing state-bred competition before making a successful jump to graded competition in July of his 3-year-old season, when he won the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. He finished the season by running second against older competition in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, then winning the G1 Malibu Stakes.

That served as a launching pad to becoming a world-class sprinter at age four, including his first of two victories in the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen on the Dubai World Cup undercard. Mind Your Biscuits returned stateside to win the G2 Belmont Sprint Championship Stakes, and later finish third in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint and second in the G1 Cigar Mile Handicap.

After earning his second Dubai Golden Shaheen title early in his 5-year-old season, Mind Your Biscuits was acquired by the Shadai operation, with the ultimate goal of standing him in Japan at the end of his career. In the interim, Shadai raced the horse in partnership with owners J. Stables LLC, M. Scott Summers, Head of Plains Partners LLC, Chad Summers, Daniel Summers and Michael E. Kisber.

For the new partnership, Mind Your Biscuits stretched out to add runner-up efforts in the G1 Metropolitan Handicap and G1 Whitney Stakes, and a victory in the G2 Lukas Classic. He retired with eight wins in 24 starts and earnings of $4,279,566 – the most ever for a New York-bred, well ahead of next-closest champion Funny Cide at $3,529,412.

Mind Your Biscuits retired to Shadai Stallion Station for the 2019 breeding season, and he has sired six crops of racing age, with 220 winners and combined progeny earnings in excess of $25.4 million.

He is best known at stud for the world-traveled Derma Sotogake from his debut crop, a Group 2 winner in Saudi Arabia and stakes winner in his native Japan who finished sixth in the 2023 Kentucky Derby before coming back to the U.S. later that year to run second in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Other runners of note by Mind Your Biscuits include Japanese Group 3 winners Ho O Biscuits and Ma Puce.
