DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A HEARING ON a plan to expand the Department of Sanitation’s on-street container pilot program to include Brooklyn’s Community District 2 will take place online on Wednesday, June 17, from 9:30 – 11 a.m. The pilot program would require large and medium buildings in District 2 to place their trash out in stationary, high-capacity Empire Bins on the street, serviced by new New York Department of Sanitation side-loading trucks.
District 2 includes Downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill and nearby neighborhoods. The rule change would extend containerization requirements for both large residential buildings that contain 31 or more residential dwelling units, and medium residential buildings that contain 10 to 30 residential dwelling units.
Comments on the proposed expansion of the pilot program may be made at the hearing, by mail and via email. Visit the city’s rules website for information on attending the hearing or mailing in comments. The deadline to comment is June 17.
