Severe thunderstorms hit parts of New Jersey and New York City on Thursday evening, June 11, producing dramatic mesmerizing lightning displays.
This footage, captured from north Brooklyn, shows a large storm over northern New Jersey, a few miles to the east.
The same system eventually reached New York City, bringing brief but torrential rain showers and high winds.
The storms came amid sweltering heat in New York City, with temperatures around 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) and high humidity continuing into late evening.
The hot and humid weather would continue on Friday, with the heat hitting around 100 degrees in the afternoon, the National Weather Service said. There would also be a slight risk of thunderstorms and flash flooding, they added. Credit: Rob McDonagh via Storyful
