The FIFA World Cup is officially underway, and attention is now turning to the New York-New Jersey region as it prepares to host its first match of the tournament.
The competition opened with Mexico defeating South Africa 2-0 in Mexico City, while South Korea topped the Czech Republic 2-1 in Guadalajara. Team USA is set to make its tournament debut tonight against Paraguay in California.
Meanwhile, MetLife Stadium will host its first World Cup match tomorrow when Brazil takes on Morocco, marking the start of a series of games expected to draw fans from around the globe to the region.
