Manhattan, Mont. — Manhattan town leaders got an early look at public safety funding requests Thursday night as work begins on the town’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
During a budget workshop, officials from the Manhattan Police Department and Manhattan Fire Department outlined several requests they say would help support services and operations as the community continues to grow.
The Manhattan Police Department is seeking funding for upgraded Tasers, a new patrol vehicle, and continued support for the town’s school resource officer position.
Police officials told town leaders the requests are intended to help maintain equipment and ensure the department can continue providing services to residents and local schools.
The Manhattan Fire Department also presented plans for a new training center. According to department officials, the facility would provide dedicated space for classroom instruction, department meetings, and firefighter training activities.
Town leaders emphasized that the requests remain in the early stages of the budget process and have not yet been approved. However, the proposals offer a preview of some of the investments being considered as officials work to finalize spending plans for the next fiscal year.
The budget process will continue throughout the summer, with a preliminary budget expected to be approved in July. Final adoption of the budget is scheduled for August.
