A northern New York man is facing several charges after police say he led them on a chase and jumped off a bridge to escape. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says patrols responded to the area of Factory Street in Fort Edward on Thursday. The sheriff’s office got a report that there was disturbance with a subject who was believed to have a handgun. Patrols found a vehicle at the site, and attempted a vehicle stop on State Route 4. The vehicle continued south on the road and crashed into the Northumberland Bridge. The suspect, 18-year-old Caleb Wadsworth, then exited the vehicle and jumped off the bridge into the Hudson River to escape police. Wadsworth was taken into custody on a small island west of the bridge. He faces a felony charge of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Fleeing Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Imprisonment, reckless endangerment, and vehicle and traffic tickets in the town of Fort Edward. Wadswoth is being held on $40,000 cash bail at the Washington County Jail. The incident is still under investigation.
